My name is Robert Bond and I have been involved in hotel barging and the french canals since 1978, on the very day that I first came to live in France from my native England. Every night for the following 15 years I slept on a barge somewhere on the canals of France.

I have co-owned and run the H2O company since 1987 with Charles Gerard and Catherine Rault, and we have our own travel agency specialising in barging since 2001.

Isabelle Farion is the Bookings Manager of H2Olidays, and is a very organised and friendly english-speaking french lady from Beaune in the heart of the winegrowing region of our beloved Burgundy, where our offices are based. Isabelle and her team will be your direct contact for organising your cruise on the european canals and waterways.

Together we have made a great selection of barges covering the most attractive regions of France as well as Scotland, England and Italy.

Hotel barging is the most comfortable and luxurious way to experience the canals of France combining fine dining and a well researched exploration of the highlights of the region surrounding the barge by minibus or coach.

The barge will be your home for 3 or 6 nights. You can join in with an excursion by minibus to a nearby vineyard or medieval village, walk or bicycle along the towpath which follows the canal, or simply sit back on the sun deck and watch the countryside go past.  On the canals the speed is about 3 m.p.h. so you easily keep up on foot.

Most of these barges are cruising in the Burgundy region and the south of France, but we also offer barges in the Loire valley, England,  Scotland and Italy.

Unlike any other form of transport the barge drifts along with no apparent motion. The passing countryside is so close that you can hear it, smell it, and even chat to the locals fishing as you pass within feet of their rod and line. There is a real magic in being part of this floating home, and we invite you to share it.

We will be presenting here more and more hotel barges. Just go to The Barges page and click on the barge that interests you to find out more information about the barges and the routes offered..

These barges are very popular and are often well booked in advance. Please E mail us as soon as you have chosen the barge and the dates that you require and we will get back to you with availability. Or just contact us, tell us what you are looking for, and we get back with some cruising suggestions.

Booking is easy: Just fill out the Booking Form and fax it back to us with your credit card details for the payment of the deposit.
