| What if I pay and turn up in France
and there is no barge?
Can I trust the barge to be safe and up to standards? Do they speak English on board? What clothes should I bring? What is the currency on board? |
What about medical assistance?
What is the weather like? Is it good value for money? How can I book? |

What if I pay and turn up in France and there is no barge? The barge operators that we have selected have
decades of experience and are here to stay! You will be given phone
numbers when booking to enable you to get it touch if you have a
problem making the rendezvous at the meeting point. All of the hotel barges listed here are
registered in France and there are very strict regulations concerning
safety equipment, condition of the boat, fire prevention, the
qualifications of the captains, general hygiene. Boats are inspected
regularily by the Navigation authorities and are only permitted to
operate if these strict requirements have been met.
Most of the crew are British or english speaking.
Dress on board is usually casual but ties for men are
usual for dinner on the last night. Summers are often very warm in all
areas although most canals are tree lined and shaded. The beginnings and
end of season may be quite cool. You should also expect the possibility
of rain at all times of the year.
The currency on board is euros, although apart from Anacoluthe
and Escargot where the bar tab is not included in the cruise price, there
is nothing to purchase on board. Crew gratuities are welcome in any currency.

What about medical assistance? There are no doctors on board but the French medical system
is first class and the barge is never far from a doctor who can be summoned
if required by the Captain or Barge Manager.
Warm summers. Cool beginning and end of the season. Rain
possible at any time. We wish we could be more specific but it is normal
here for the weather to be different from year to year.
Once you have been met at the meeting point, you are entirely
looked after by the crew and the barge operator and you will have very
little additional expenses. Other vacations may seem cheaper at first,
but add up the cost at the end of a week in Europe - hotels, restaurants,
hire car, guides, gasoline, drinks, guides, entrance fees etc..Barging
is good value for money and you have no stress of driving, finding your
way, finding hotels, packing and unpacking, getting your baggage carried
etc.. Try it!
Please let us know by Email or fax, or even call us during European office hours, and we will let you know the availability of cabins and also we'll be very happy to answer any questions that you may have. We know these boats and the routes very well. See you in France soon! |
