Arrival at Chateau la Chassagne at Pont de Pany near Dijon. At 5pm transfer by air conditionned minibus to the barge which is moored in the port of Dijon. You are welcomed on board with a Kir Royal cocktail by the captain and crew. The captain takes those of you that wish on a guided tour of Dijon to visit the town and shopping district. Back on board for dinner and drinks. Saturday During breakfast, the barge will leave the port and make its way west along the Burgundy Canal which will carry your barging home for the next week. The first part of the journey takes us out past the Lake Kir, a long artificial lake and park very popular with the people of Dijon for walking and jogging. Guests are free to leave the barge at any one of the locks as walking and cycling are easy along the towpath and you can easily keep up with the barge, even on foot! After a stop for lunch, the barge will continue to Fleurey sur Ouche for the nights stop. Sunday Today the barge will cruise all day up the Burgundy Canal past very picturesque villages finally tying up in the charming village of Gissey sur Ouche for the night. Monday After breakfast there is an all day excursion to Beaune with lunch in a restaurant for those staying for the full 6 nights. 3 day cruises start or end on this day. Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy and boast the finest Burgundian/Flemish architecture in France. A must is a visit to the Hotel Dieu, a hospital founded in the 15th century and now a fascinating museum open to the public. There is also a Wine Museum and plenty of opportunities to taste wine in the wine cellars in town. |
